Graduating high school in 1968, he joined the United States Air Force when he turned eighteen. He was sent to Altus Air Force Base after his basic training and schooling. Soon after arriving, he met Pam Bell whom he married in 1970. Lloyd spent his entire twenty years at AAFB retiring in 1989. During many of these years, he worked second jobs to provide for his family.
Lloyd’s artistic talents appeared in many aspects over the years. He painted a C141 on the wall of the classroom where he taught aircraft maintenance. Actually, it was just part of the plane as it looked as if it were behind the whiteboard. His talents aided the Boy Scout Troop for which he was Scoutmaster by helping to draw and paint an old west town on boards and boxes for a Jamboree. Lloyd learned to paint with oils on mirrors from friends as he remodeled their cabin. He sold some of these and even had a few stolen. He drew some pen and ink drawing and had prints made. He sold them through various shows over the next few years. Maybe his best work was one from the heart. Lloyd drew a portrait of his three children with color pencils. The drawing was 16X20 when he finished, but he used a wallet size photo as his model. Some of his most unique and beautiful works are his doodles. He can fill a page with fanciful designs. Lloyd can look at it years later and tell you what was happening when he did them.
The job market was tough when he retired from the AF. He drilled water wells for one summer. The local funeral home needed a grounds keeper. He began working that March 1990 and by 1995 became a licensed director and manager of the same funeral home.
During the moves to Kansas then Tennessee and traveling, his love for art continued to resurface. Amanda asked him to work with her on some projects. He has reclaimed that talent and enjoying creating items of beauty.
